Navy Nuclear Power Training Command

The Navy Nuclear Power Training Command (NNPTC) is a school in the US Navy where their nuclear engineers are trained.

The school that I went to was in Orlando, Florida. It was closed and sold about a year after I left so it's probably a bunch of condos by now. When it was there it was a really nice place to go to school. There were plenty of large grassy areas and several small lakes. Nearby there were shopping malls, movie theaters, and a bowling alley.

The nuclear program is widely acknowledged as having one of the most demanding occupational field academic programs in the U.S. military today. The school operates at a very fast pace and stringent academic standards are required for all subjects. Students frequently study upwards of 85 hours per week as required by the instructors depending on a student's GPA. When I atteneded the school there was a 40% dropout rate. Although I had a 3.4 GPA I left early due to knee pain and depression that I was suffering over a broken romance. I chose an honerable discharge rather than be demoted to a regular electronics tech.
